OurDream AI Reddit: What Users Say After a Year of Changes

On Reddit, OurDream AI users praise its roleplay, its group chats and the size of its character library. Since June 2026 the complaints have taken over: stricter moderation that flags ordinary words, public characters pulled without warning, chats that repeat the same lines, and a free trial cut to 5 messages per character in August.

We went through all 4,409 posts on r/ourdream_ai, OurDream's official subreddit, from October 2025 to November 4, 2026, and read the replies under 28 of its busiest threads. We make Lovi Dream, a competing AI girlfriend app, so read this with that in mind. Every quote links to the post or reply it came from. We checked each quoted account's history for referral codes and ads for other apps, and on November 4 we checked that every linked post and reply was still up.

Where people talk about OurDream on Reddit

Most OurDream talk on Reddit happens on r/ourdream_ai, which calls itself the official OurDream subreddit. Posts there often don't last: 935 of the 4,409 we collected had been removed or deleted, and several threads we planned to quote had been taken down by the time we checked. When OurDream cut the free trial in August, the moderators' announcement said further posts about it would be removed and sent feedback to OurDream's helpdesk instead.

Keep the referral codes in mind too. A new subscriber who signs up with someone's code gets 1,000 extra dreamcoins, so the sub keeps a sticky thread for referral codes, and many upbeat replies end with one. One of the sub's most active posters has shared the same code more than 30 times. We left those replies out.

Ads for other apps turn up in the replies as well, though many of them get deleted. Threads about OurDream on r/Chatbots and r/AIGirlfriend get the same treatment, and our roundup of Candy AI threads on Reddit shows what those ads look like.

What Reddit users like about OurDream

The roleplay gets the most praise. A user who chats more than they generate called it "the best roleplay out there in my opinion", while saying OurDream's pictures aren't as good as other services'. A subscriber who makes a lot of videos called it "best in the market hands down" for its "incredible depth in managing the ai memories and directions," and a creator wrote, "I haven't found another site that does image gen + chat as well. They have the best characters in my opinion."

The user who called it the best roleplay had tried Candy AI first and found OurDream "way more customizable," adding, "I've never seen another AI service get updates as quickly as ourdream does." Even in a thread full of complaints about the writing, one reply said OurDream "has the best format/layout/controls/characters" and that the other popular sites they looked at were worse.

Group chats, where several characters share one conversation, have their own following, and users swap their favourite ones. They take some practice. One user found that OurDream "seems to randomly choose who will be responding," and the fix another user gave is to write your message, then click the picture of the character you want to answer.

Because users publish their own characters, the library is huge and quality depends on who made the character. A regular said some "very talented creators" post work in progress on OurDream's Discord for others to test, and called the Discord "a must have."

The biggest complaint: moderation since June 2026

From June 2026, the sub filled with posts about filters. "The moderation is getting kinda crazy," one user wrote in July: a character someone else made talks about steroid use, and the chat kept answering that "chat about drugs isn't allowed." In a post called "I'm fed up", another user wrote that moderation "has become a noose around the neck."

The examples users give are mostly ordinary words tripping a filter. One user offered to buy a sick character antibiotics and was "Flagged for Drug Use." Another wrote, "I had to stop a chat because we tried to order pizza with mushroom and I was flagged for drug use." Rough sex trips it too, and one user's advice was to "be gentle when youre having sex or otherwise you'll get flagged for sexual violence."

Private chats aren't spared. One user said their account was flagged for manual review over dark themes in characters and chats they had always kept private, and another wrote, "They are even censoring private chats now with private characters." That matches OurDream's own moderation page, which says automated filters scan every chat. Our post on whether OurDream AI is safe covers who can read your chats.

Creators lost characters too. "You publish them, we enjoy them and then they just get taken away," one user wrote in July, adding that they "can't even read the chat log or see their picture." A reply in the same thread said the characters were being removed because "the model looks too young."

One change got applause instead. Cheating and cuckolding characters (tagged NTR) had filled the Explore page, to the point where a new user asked why "atleast like 80% of the stuff here is NTR." In September OurDream took NTR and some darker tags off the default Explore view, so you now have to filter for them, and a thank-you post for the change got more than 50 upvotes. You can also block tags yourself in your profile preferences.

Chats that repeat the same lines

The second big complaint is that characters started sounding alike. In September one user wrote that "you can't make a mean character any more" because within a few messages they soften, and that every character asks the same questions, like "What do you think about when you are alone at night?"

A thread on OurDream clichés collected dozens. "Tell me one true thing" came up again and again, one reply complaining that characters ask it even during sex. Others listed "I let out a breath I didn't realize I was holding," tucking a strand of hair behind her ear, and characters who all love pasta.

Instructions get ignored more than they used to. A long post from August said characters had become "a watered-down version of themselves" and no longer showed the mood and status displays their creators asked for, and a user on the Balanced and Muse models said they regenerate "maybe one in five messages" for bad memory or looping.

Memory depends a lot on the character. One user had chats falling apart after about four messages, then noticed the worst ones were all with characters from the same few creators, while chats with other creators' characters "are months long, and they've remained consistent." Another said keeping a character's pinned memories and additional details up to date "dramatically improved the experience."

Dreamcoins, the free trial and Premium

Premium costs $19.99 a month and includes 1,000 dreamcoins. With Premium you can chat as much as you like on the standard chat models, and the coins go on images, videos and the premium chat models. Comic pages made in OurDream's Comic Studio use them too, which our OurDream Comic Studio guide explains. One subscriber said that "if you are using one of the free chat models and only making a few pictures a day, 1,000 coin a month is plenty," and that they spend a few thousand coins a month because they make videos.

Video and chat images are where coins disappear. One user called video generation "very sketchy at best" and wrote that "you can blow through a thousand coins in ten minutes." In a thread about pictures that don't match the chat, another wrote, "I cannot begin to count how many tokens I have lost to images that absolutely have nothing to do with what I selected or wrote."

The free trial used to be generous. New accounts got 55 dreamcoins, about 55 messages, and could spend them all on one character. On August 10, 2026 OurDream limited free accounts to 5 messages per character, after which the conversation blurs. The replies were almost all negative. "I don't see how 5 messages is enough to get the conversation going?" one user asked.

Support and refunds

OurDream's moderators send feedback to its helpdesk at ourdream.ai/helpdesk, and regulars send new users to its Discord, where creators post guides and characters to test. Users who aren't on Discord feel left out. One of them wrote under their own long complaint about the AI, "I was hoping my feedback would be looked at on Reddit."

Is OurDream worth it, according to Reddit?

For long roleplay and group chats, most regulars still say yes, though many add that it was better before June 2026. If you mostly want images or video, the threads are less kind, because those cost dreamcoins and don't always match what you asked for. If your stories go into dark themes, expect the filters to interrupt, private chats included.

Before you pay, try characters from a few well-reviewed creators within the 5 free messages each, start with the monthly plan, and block the tags you don't want in your profile preferences. Save copies of chats you care about, because users say a pulled character's chat log disappears with it.
