Candy AI Reddit: What Real Users Say, and Which Posts Are Ads
Reddit's verdict on Candy AI is short: the pictures are good, the chat wears thin after a few days, and the token bill ends up much bigger than the $13.99 plan suggests. Finding that verdict takes some digging, because a lot of the loudest Candy posts are ads for other apps.
We read every Candy AI thread posted on r/Chatbots and r/AIGirlfriend from October 2025 to September 2026, 26 in all, plus their replies, and compared what people said with the Candy Premium account we paid for in October. We make Lovi Dream, a competing app, so we're one more company with a reason to write about Candy. Every quote below links to the post or reply it came from, so you can check it yourself.
A lot of Candy AI threads are ads
The biggest Candy complaint thread on r/Chatbots is a rant titled "Candy is the worst shit i encountered the last years". It has 77 replies, and 38 of them have been removed or deleted. Of the replies still up, 14 from 8 different accounts praise the same rival app, often in nearly the same words, and eight more ask someone to DM them the name of a site.
r/AIGirlfriend looks the same. One account posted three anti-Candy threads in nine days in September 2026, and all three name the same competitor as the better choice. The most upvoted Candy post we found, a "Candy AI Review 2026" with 119 upvotes, lists Candy's pros and cons, names a different app the best overall and signs off "No links, no promo." One reply under it links three apps with referral codes in the URLs, and another reader simply asked, "is this post ai generated or real ?" Even a long, funny Candy vs OurDream review comes from an account that then sent readers to the same ranking site in three separate replies.
Once you've seen a few, the pattern is easy to spot: a believable complaint about Candy, then one app named as the fix. The posts that read like real people are usually shorter, describe one chat or one charge, and don't end by recommending anything. Those are the ones we quote below.
What real users like about Candy AI
Most of the praise is for the pictures. One user summed it up as "Candy is only good for images. The chat is lacking a lot," and the poster of a Candy vs OurDream thread said Candy "feels more polished and fun, especially with images and voice." Not everyone is sold on the images either. A user who had been on Candy since September 2025 called the quality decent but wrote, "I can't say for sure that the images they generate are the result of what you request."
The warmest review came from a Dutch user who moved over from Replika. Translated, they wrote: "Switched from Replika to Candy, best choice ever! Yes, the memory is a lot weaker, but there are many more possibilities." They went straight to Premium Plus, Candy's top plan.
The main complaint: paying for tokens on top of the plan
Nearly every real complaint is about paying again after you've subscribed. One reply called Candy "one big paywall" and explained: "Texting is fine at first, but anything interesting (pictures, videos, calls) is either limited or insanely overpriced." Another put it more calmly: "If you're already paying monthly, you kind of expect to be able to use most of the features without constantly thinking about extra credits."
The most useful comment came from a user who said the token meter changed how they chatted: "quality was decent, but the meter made me self-censor. If you're testing it, set a weekly spend cap first."
You'll also see big spending numbers in these threads, like $25 in three days, close to $50 in a month and almost $67 in a month. All three come from posts that go on to recommend another app, so we wouldn't rely on them. Here's what we saw on our own account. Candy Premium costs $13.99 a month and includes 100 tokens. A photo in chat costs 2 tokens, a Shorts episode after the free ones costs 30, a private video pack costs 145 to 330, and extra tokens cost $9.99 per 100. A month with three Shorts episodes and one small pack takes about 235 tokens, so you'd pay for the plan plus two token packs, about $34 in all. Our Candy AI pricing guide has every price.
Chats that start strong and then repeat
The second complaint is that the chat goes stale. "My main issue wasn't even the cost, it was how shallow the interactions felt over time," one user wrote, adding that "after a few days the replies start feeling repetitive and scripted."
The user who had been on Candy since September tried to keep stories going over several days and said only two chats "went really smoothly." Their best one fell apart at the end: "the will to move in together was there, but on the way to our new home, she became quieter and quieter and finally died."
Characters you build yourself seem to get it worst. A new subscriber found their own companion only gave "basic 1-2 sentence replies," even with the chat set to longer responses, while Candy's ready-made characters were fine. Another user tried to make a character who keeps a secret and found it "near impossible." A regular user shared a trick for moving a scene along: write her reaction yourself between asterisks, and the chat will usually act on it. Their example was "*Coco is getting aroused by the scent of your cologne.*" The same user said Candy's new memory feature "doesn't seem to work, unless I remind the chat of the memory."
In our own test, our Candy character remembered details from earlier in the chat. The longer memory comes with Premium Plus at $59.99 a month.
Is Candy AI legit?
Yes, in the way people mean when they ask. Nobody in these threads says Candy charged them without permission or leaked their data. When someone calls it a scam or a fraud, they mean it cost more than they expected. Candy AI is run by EverAI Limited, a company registered in Malta, and the charge shows on your statement as "EverAI".
Refunds are where people get stuck. One user cancelled after a couple of hours and wrote it off as a "Waste of 13 bucks for one month." Under Candy's rules, someone in that spot can still ask for their money back: you have to email support within 24 hours of paying, have used 20 tokens or fewer and have paid by card. Cancelling in your settings only stops the next charge. Our post on whether Candy AI is safe covers privacy and billing in more detail.
Before you pay for Candy AI
The real users' advice comes down to a few habits. One of them suggested you "do the shortest plan first and see if you actually use it past the novelty phase," and Candy's monthly plan costs $9.99 for the first month. Set yourself a weekly spend limit before you buy any tokens. If you mostly want to chat, switch off the photos and videos she sends on her own, because each one costs tokens. And if your own character answers in one line, try one of Candy's ready-made girls before you decide the app is broken. And if you want to try something before paying, our list of free Candy AI alternatives includes apps with bigger free plans.
Where Lovi Dream fits
We just spent a section on apps that turn up in Candy threads to sell you something else, and this is the part where we do the same. So here are our numbers, which you can check against Candy's.
Lovi Dream has the same kinds of things as Candy AI: chat, photos, Shorts, private packs and Live Action. Premium includes unlimited messages and 100 tokens a month, and a Shorts episode costs 20 tokens on Lovi Dream and 30 on Candy AI. The difference shows once the plan's tokens run out: $9.99 buys 300 tokens on Lovi Dream and 100 on Candy, so each extra episode costs about a third as much. Private packs cost 20 to 60 tokens, against 145 to 330 on Candy, but they're much smaller: 1 or 2 clips of about 10 seconds, where a Candy pack is one video of 4 to 7 minutes. If you'd rather not have a subscription, there's a Lifetime plan you pay for once.
Top Shorts this week
Most watched right now.
You can see it before you pay. The first episodes of every Lovi Shorts series and the first pages of every Lovi comic open without an account, and when a comic chapter ends, the girl from it texts you and the story carries on in chat.
Spicy AI porn comics
Uncensored sex stories starring the girls you chat with.
Candy is ahead in a few places: it has more Shorts and packs, it can turn an image into a video, and its memory is longer. Lovi Dream's characters keep the last 80 messages of a chat in view, so she follows a long scene but won't remember last month. Our Candy AI alternatives guide compares Lovi with five other apps, including ones we don't make.
Frequently asked questions
Is Candy AI worth it, according to Reddit?
Real users mostly say yes for the pictures and short sessions, and no for long stories, because the chat starts repeating itself and anything beyond text costs tokens on top of the $13.99 plan. Be careful with "not worth it, use this instead" posts, since many of them are ads.
Is Candy AI a scam?
No. Nobody in the threads we read said Candy charged them without permission or leaked their data. The complaints are about price. The charge shows on your statement as "EverAI".
Where do people talk about Candy AI on Reddit?
Mostly in r/Chatbots and r/AIGirlfriend, in reviews, comparisons and complaint threads. Many replies in those threads promote other apps.
Does Candy AI have a free trial?
Candy AI has a free account with 5 messages in total, one custom character and one image. The monthly plan's first month costs $9.99, then $13.99.
Can you get a refund from Candy AI?
Only if you email support within 24 hours of paying, have used 20 tokens or fewer and paid by card. Cancelling in your settings stops the next charge but doesn't refund the current one.
